The first entry in this small notebook was made in 1842 and recorded the deaths of Bustons, Lamberts and others until the last entry in 1933. Judging by the writing it was kept by four people over those years, at Buston Hall and Buston Barnes and then forgotten..
There are two interesting entries which are shown below. The first shown below records the death of Hugh, Duke of Northumberland on Feb. 11 1847. The second however is much further down the social scale and records the sudden death of Jock on May 7 1932, presumably a much loved pet.
The Death Book has been useful in confirming events and verifying records.There are over 100 entries which record Northumbrians as far afield as New Zealand and of course includes those lost in the Great War.
